When I owned my first car, I knew nothing about insurance, how it worked, or where to go to get it. I basically asked my parents and they place me up with their company. I assumed that my parents knew about insurance. I’m sure there are plenty of people out there that are the same way and have probably stuck with their car insurance or any insurance for that very reason. However, like the dozens of television commercials say, “You might be paying too noteworthy for your car insurance”. In some cases that’s not a bait and switch, that is reality. There are probably a lot of people out there who are paying a ton on car insurance for terrible coverage. We must remember that insurance companies are like any other business and are out to make a profit. They like to paint themselves as “do-gooders”, but for the most section they are providing a service just like any company. With this in mind, we should be approaching car insurance like we do when we shop at a department store. If you take the time and shop smart, you could literally put hundreds.

First, go online and search for a good list of auto insurers. There are plenty out there. Gain a list on a piece of paper of all the one’s you would feel the most comfortable. This involves reading their websites, reviews, and other outside information on each company. Once you are finished getting on the preliminary information you will start to gape what the quotes will be for each company. Most insurance companies today have forms you can fill out on their websites to earn an estimated premium quote. This means that they can give you a good ballpark figure of what you would be paying. This does not mean that it is the valid amount. One thing to keep in mind during this step is that once you fill these quote forms out they will be hunting you down for your business. You’ve figured out the ball park numbers, write them down next to each of the insurance companies names.

Before we become too hasty, the thing that you have to remember is that buying insurance can be like buying from Wal-mart in comparison to Target. Sometimes, you can buy the same DVD at Wal-mart for a cheaper price than you would at Target. There are insurance companies out there that are impartial more expensive than others and in a lot of ways there is no reason for them to be that expensive. First, weed out the companies that just seem a little too “shady” or have bad reviews and a bad reputation. Even if the premium is really low, I would think twice before jumping into something that might end up being a can of worms. Second, fetch rid of the high premium companies. Their coverages probably aren’t worth the money. Once you’ve reached a shorter list, then now you will start going to their local offices. Finally, get the phone numbers to the local insurance agent business office and set up an appointment to talk more in depth about their services. This doesn’t mean you’re set to buy the insurance necessarily, but it’s a way for you to get more information.

Before you manufacture a bad decision by choosing your insurance company purely for rude premium only, I will dispute a few things. First, does it seem like they value customer service? When you call in to make a claim, or get something changed on your policy, the last thing you are going to want to deal with is a call representative or agent that is a jerk or doesn’t care. You don’t want your insurance company hassling you about service they should be providing you. Second, how reputable is this insurance company? Unbiased because they are an “insurance” company doesn’t mean they are going to automatically be stand up business people (Behold AIG). Insurance companies are selling you “Peace of mind”. Peace of mind in their coverage and peace of mind that they will take care of you if something bad happens. If this company has a bad reputation for not paying out claims, or giving more hassle than it’s worth, then I would think twice before signing your business over to them. Third, what extra services are they willing to provide? A lot of times insurance companies might have a little higher of premium, but will be providing extra services in return. For instance, there are “Forgiveness” programs where if you get into one accident they won’t jack up your premium. Sure, you might be paying a shrimp extra, but probably not even close to what you would pay after you got into an accident. In the end, low premium is good and is what you want to strive for, but at the same time keep in mind the extra value that some insurance companies can provide. Ultimately, you want to get somewhat of a gratified medium. Get that low premium, but also with the added value of a quality insurance company that you know you can trust.

At this point you are ready to make the final decision and the good news is is that insurance never does the “contract” stuff that cell phone companies or what have you try to pull. So, if you aren’t satisfied with the company or service you can always bolt and find another company. Hopefully by this time you are happy to make the switch to save some money and hopefully have a new relationship with an insurance company.

Turn on your television and you will probably come across one of the many Geico Insurance commercials. The newest ones, however, are using the theory of evolution to promote their services. You may have started seeing these about one year ago, when a Geico representative blurred “So easy a Caveman can do it”. This then became the punch line in the next series of commercials inspiring “actual” cavemen irked that they are labeled with being stupid.

Geico Insurances newest commercials are airing all the time. Many of them get a few chuckles, even from me, as they are funny in a weird blueprint. So what’s the big idea? Well, it’s not so much that Geico is using cavemen to promote their insurance, it’s that they are continuing the series over and over again. It is as if they are not afraid to ward off Christians as potential insurance subscribers. Even though they are still running the Gecko, for Geico commercials at the same time.

Many Christians often make “noise” if you will, when offensive material is spoken, viewed, or talked about. Perhaps that was what Geico Insurance was going for. An uproar causes Geico’s name to be heard and publicized more often.

For example, when Wal*Mart announced that they donate money to organizations that promote homosexuality, Wal*Mart was in every newspaper, on every news channel, and in a lot of peoples minds. This, if you remember happened right around Black Friday. Christians threatened to not shop at Wal*Mart, which was believed to put a dent in the Black Friday shopping, however sales actually went up.

Geico Insurance is not the only company using the theory of evolution to sell their products. A well know vacuum producer, Eureka, has recently aired a commercial with a line of vacuums similar to the “evolution chart” until at the final stage, the vacuum is fully upright. The commercial states that this vacuum has fully evolved.

The thing here to focus on, is that companies are no longer fearing the boycott of Christians for two reasons. One, most Christians will expend the product or service offered anyway, and two, those who decide to protest actually help “spread the word” about companies.

It’s the same idea behind those companies who use animal testing on their products. In 1995, Gillette was severely protested against for their animal testing practices by PETA. Ads were mailed with pictures of shrimp white bunnies with large open wounds and teary eyes. Many PETA protesters swore off Gillette’s products, but Gillette’s sales did not drop dramatically. As a matter of fact, more then 10 years later, Gillette is still one of the top personal care producers in the world, and they still have not stopped animal testing. Why should they, their name has become so well known that those who protest against them are only a small percentage of sales they may have gotten. A change in practices will only be carried out if they can gain more popularity by making the commitment to not test on animals.

So where from here? Well there are several steps you can do if you feel offended by Geico Insurances advertising tactics. One thing you can do is write the company explaining how you feel. Make clear to let them know that you will not be giving Geico Insurance any of your service, and you will not recommend them to anyone because you believe your money would be better to use by a company that supports Christian ethics and views. Enough letters they may get the point and pull the commercials. You can write to Geico Insurance at : 10680 Treena St San Diego California 92131-2442

Another option you have is to truly put your money where you mouth is. If you currently have insurance with Geico, get quotes from others, and even if one is a little higher, leave Geico Insurance and make the switch to another competitor. When doing this be sure to let the agent you dispute with know, as well a write a follow up letter explaining your decision. If you do not have Geico insurance, and don’t ever want to because of their tactics, asked to be removed from their mailing list, again, follow up with a letter about your request.

If you do happen to get mail from them asking you to note up for Geico Insurance products, mail them attend (as long as the postage is already paid by Geico Insurance) with a mark you do not like the fact they consume the theory of evolution to promote their insurance, and you want nothing to do with their services. They pay each time this happens, for your postage, and they don’t like to open an envelope that doesn’t have an application in it. This will definitely will gain their attention.

If you feel these commercials from Geico Insurance, or any other company for that matter, are not for you, and are offended, the best thing you can do is boycott Geico or any other company that chooses this type of advertising. Even if you feel that just you won’t make the inequity, at least your not contributing to their company, and it’s advertising.

Negotiating a novel insurance plan for your personal vehicle can be quite tricky since most of us are not really experts at such things, and let’s face it, the insurance people we deal with typically make a commission on their sales, so it is hardly in their best interest financially to give me too deep of a discount.

When you start shopping for a car insurance rate, make a list of all of the people you encounter during this journey. The companies with low overhead are usually the best for the least costly insurance plan, but you have to manufacture sure that you are comparing apples and apples.

The best way to learn ways of getting cheaper rates is to shop around, and keep notes on the quoted rates from each firm. Dealing with a local agent can be very helpful since you can sit with them face to face and learn from them what your insurance options really are. Also if you build a relationship with them, it can be very helpful in the long hurry, since you have a local person in a nearby office to go see when there is a problem.

So if I were just starting out trying to obtain a new insurance policy, I would probably check with four or five close friends, and add one person I hardly know to see who they use for car insurance. I would then call on three or four local insurance agents to gape what kind of rates they can offer me, then I would go on-line to see what the vast agencies were willing to give me.

Bearing in mind that the insurance companies have more power than even government, and as a result they do share your information, and therefore it would be no surprise that the rates I am quoted are exceptionally similar since they all use the same input data to calculate what level of risk I pose to their profit making machinery. Their well-known objective is to keep as grand of the money we send to them, and our unprejudiced is to give them as little of our paycheck as we possibly can.

Now comes the fun part, negotiating for your cheap insurance policy. There is a lot to be said for holding your cards close to your chest in poker, and the same goes for negotiating insurance rates. One thing you can do is explain to the agent across from you that you have been shopping rates, and that you are willing to negotiate with them right away. Let them know that you would be willing to head out the door if you don’t get that warm, fuzzy feeling.

If you demolish up visiting with or talking to an agent who is working with a friend or acquaintance, make sure the agent knows they referred you to them, since this helps launch the door with an immediate feeling of familiarity; it will carry some weight in your negotiations.

Now once you lay out the insurance plans that you are interested in, and the agent (or an internet company) gives you a quote, then you can start sharing notes with the next agency, making sure they know exactly what you are looking to pay per month.

One of the problems many people have with negotiating is that they do not express clearly to the other party exactly what it is that they are expecting as the ideal end result. And because of this lack of clarity during negotiations, there is often some information which is lost in translation. This causes people to come out of their negotiations wondering why the other party did not automatically give them the huge discount they wanted.

The correct way to be heard is to politely yet firmly speak up and tell them exactly what you expect. this does not mean you can be demanding rude or pushy, but rather be firm, confident, and crystal definite about what you, want, need and expect.
